Get a Detox - do I recommend it for the Never to Late List?
I combined my detox with some quite serious training in the pool swimming between 1250m and 2500m a session four times over the course of the week. This will have accounted partly for the 5lbs of weight which I lost. I expect without that exercise the weight loss would be less. And the pool helps keep your skin clear too.
But that aside, I am confident that the detox worked for me. The first couple of days on the liquid-only fast were quite tough though not to the point where I was tempted to knaw my own knuckles. Much of that part is about presence of mind and finding things to do over the times when you would normally be eating. The final five days were much easier though I would suggest that eating out is difficult. Sushi is allowed but at any normal restaurant I think you would struggle to find something that would suit the diet. A mixed salad with no dressing while everyone else is tucking into pizza or steak would probably drive you around the bend so my advice is, if you can avoid it, don't eat out in restaurants that week. Interestingly when I broke my detox at East Restaurant on Tuesday evening I could not sleep at all. At 3am I was still staring at the ceiling so one way or another my body didn't appreciate the toxins I was re-introducing. Ditto the experience with the pizza I had yesterday evening. Interesting, eh?
So would I recommend a detox? Yes I would. Wholeheartedly. But only if it is done properly and carefully. It has certainly kickstarted good habits again for me and people have commented on the difference.
My advice? Go for it!
